M-Dog found it online, so I don't really know how it was made, but I assume you're right: it looks like they cut a small pumpkin in half to make the bun, put pumpkin seeds on the outside of the bun, and then filled it with a real burger, and real cheese, lettuce and tomato. The weird thing is that it looks so realistic, even though size-wise it's much, much bigger than a normal burger (as reflected by the normal-sized cheese, lettuce and tomato).
I don't know why, but I found it rather satisfying to write all of that out, even though I assume it's obvious.

Good God, what is that abomination? It's baffling--the "buns" are simulacra, but the rest looks real.
