Realism
I think I would be perfectly happy spending my time trying to develop ways to make higher fidelity recordings or higher resolution photographs. I don't know why, I just kind of like the idea of really realistic reproductions of things.

Yes it is, though if you search the internet you just might find a similar photo of a certain special someone's eye as well.

Stare at the =O) and bend your neck towards your left shoulder. Do you see a face?

"O" nose

(I suppose a really good camera could capture the reflection of your eye in the lens of the camera in your pupil.)
