Snakes on a Plane...

...is a really good time when you're in a theater full of people who brought plastic snakes with them, make hissing sounds at crucial moments in the movie, and cheer every time anything cool happens.

Our audience was very into the movie as well. Everytime a snake took somebody out I thought the guy next to me was going to have a heart attack he was so excited and histerical. And when Samuel L Jackson said his line about the mother f*in snakes, well don't even get me started!

Saw it last night, too. Loved the audience participation.

They cheered when S. Jackson first appeared, cheered again when he said his first words, and cheered and laughed hysterically with any sort of provocation whatsoever. Even when the title "Snakes on a Plane" first appeared on screen.

Anonymous filled me in on a new internet acronym "SoaP", mentioned in the "Snakes on a Plane" Wikipedia article. It means something like "What are you going to do? Shit happens."

UHB led me to an interesting "Snakes on a Plane" experiment that's similar to an experiment I often flirted with in college: watching the same 1/2 hour episode of a sitcom repeatedly for 24 hrs. straight.

UHB's link contains the single best critical note I've read about SoaP so far; here it is:

"[A guy named] Shannon made a very astute obseervation about the film's anti-sex tilt. Past the usual horror movie stuff and into symbolic territory when they use a life raft to seal off the spermy like snakes."
